SG-Aviation Photography is founded on, may 10th, 2008 by Stefan van Gemeren. Born in 1991, and living in a very nice village called Boskoop wich is in The Netherlands. The site was founded to show my passion avout aviation.
My passion goes about aviation generaly, both civil and military, although theres a slight preference for military. Most photo-reports youll find are made at Schiphol. From where i live there are 2 airports nearby, wich are SPL, and RTM. Since Rotterdam doesnt has that much movements as Schiphol, you'll find me at SPL. Also this is the field wich im visiting since i was a little kid. Combine that with an uncle who's also a big fan of planes, and you'll find somebody who got passioned about it.
After years of SPL wich back then i visited only a few times a year, my first real airshow was the opendays of the RNLAF, at Gilze-Rijen in 2005. After seeing all those awesome planes doing fantastic displays, and after hearing the music that an afterburner makes im even more into aviation.
It took a while though to make my first flight. This was on July 24th 2008 with KLM in a B747-400 to San Fransisco. My first helicopter flight was made on August 4th 2008 over the Grand Canyon in a Eurocopter 130.
Photographing aircrafter already started when i had my first camera, wich was a minolta camera, with a filmstrip in it. This camera didnt had any zoom, but nontheless i've had allot of fun with it. Some years later i bought myself a small digital camera. But because this camera couldnt fullfill what i wanted to do it got replaced with:
| Canon EOS 350D | 2x 2.0 GB Compact Flash Card |
| Canon Eyepiece Extender 15 (Inverted one) | Hama Star 63 Tripod |
| Canon 18-55mm F/4.5-5.6 II Kitlens | Uniden Bearcat 72 XLT |
| Canon 17-85mm F/4.0-5.6 iS USM | Adobe Lightroom |
| Sigma 70-300mm F/4.0-5.6 APO DG Macro | Photoshop CS2 |
| Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW | |
| Lowepro Computrekker AW |

This gear is still pretty basic, but is allot better the my small olympus camera. I'm still learning in photography, but practice makes perfect. Allot of photographers crop allot, and remove objects out of the picture. But (for me) it makes it a bit fake, and will try to make the best picture as possible, and if necesary adjust the lighting or make colors come out better. This because the photographer makes the photo, and not photoshop. Also a few of my shots are listed on Airliners.net
In the spotting part, i'm not caring about the numbers, and just love to see every plane/helicopter, and like to photograph them.
What i think also is a very nice extra, listening with the ATC during the spotting.
This way you know what is coming, so you wont miss it when your about to leave.
For this I made a booklet (with the help of Joost de Wit from aviaspotters.nl with the aviation frecuencies in The Netherlands (Made 13-06-2009). Wich is located here. It's a .rar file, in here is the booklet with the printing instructions. Hope you enjoy it as well!
In the summer of 2007 my knowledge of aviation grew fast, when i started the education for an operations officer, at the RoC of a'dam Airport, for some know as the NLC. This school, only has educations that has something to do with aviation. For example we have a hangar with about 10-15 aircraft stored, both civil and military. As many make theyr work from theyr hobby, i done that as well. After a 2 month intern i got offered a contract at Aviapartner. At Aviapartner i work in the baggage basement of Schiphol. Later in this education i also did an intern at Aviapartner operations at RTM.
This site is created to show my pictures of aviation, for the ones who are interested.
All pictures are Copyrighted by the photographer, wich is me. There are no intensions to sell them. The photographs published on SG-AviationPhotography can not not be used or published, for commercially or for any other purposes, without my permission.
