This weekend there was a fly-in organized at the Aviodrome. This is a dutch aviation musuem, with allot of dutch history in it. This weekend it was 75 years ago that the legendary race London - Melbourne took place (or called the MacRobertson Air Race). In this race flew around 20 various aircraft. One of them was the DC-2 'de Uiver' from the KLM. During this race the Uiver won the handicap class, and got 2nd in the overall race.
This was pretty special, since the DC-2 is a pretty large aircraft compared to the others.
But also this aircraft was the first aluminium aircraft the KLM got. The aircraft that flew the race crashed a couple of months later, but they've put in allot of effort to get a replica.
The Uiver flies during airshows these days, and is a true state of art.
But not only the uiver was present. There were several oldtimers present, like a Tiger Moth, a DH.80 Puss Moth and several other oldtimers, who also got theyr engines running.
Besides that, the entire park breathed the style of the 30's. Allot of people in old clothing, and activities that were comon back then in the Netherlands and in Australia.
Below are the pictures, i hope you like them as much as i did taking them!
